Kirsten with the girls inside, painting. Maia's hair is a mess because it is the weekend and Cecilia is not here to help. John has no idea how to do the braids!
Another of Robbie's photos. This is Karina.
Can you believe that this picture of Maia was taken by Robbie, using John's camera. I think we have a budding photographer in the family!
Break time!
Robbie got to work helping Julio with the digging.
Sunday morning, Julio and his family arrived with presents for our 'new' house - a bell flower bush and what seems to be something like a logan berry tree. The deal was not just the two plants but also the digging of the two of them into the soil! Julio came ready with a spade, compost, and the energy to dig two big holes! The bell flower bush should be a great attraction for the hummingbirds. Julio Bernal, a Colombian, is Projects Coordinator for the Flora Fauna International (working with Rob Benstead-Smith) and his wife, Kirsten, from Sweden, is a consultant biologist. Their two children, Miranda and Karina are at John's school. Robbie and Maia, and Miranda and Karina should be great friends by now but there is always a little reserve between them! When they arrived this morning, Maia went away and hid under a mattress, while Robbie, sucking his thumb, shyly watched from the safety of a door. The ice always breaks eventually and it does not take too long before they are all playing together. John was hugely grateful for Julio's and Kirsten's concern while in hospital last week - they visited and helped with Robbie and Maia.
